Saturday, April 8 A morning with white frost on the roofs and in the grass. A short morning walk towards the river but time would not be enough for me to go downhill as my walking is slow uphill.
One of the other told me that there were so many nice flowers and soaring waters at the river bridge. But anyhow my experiences this early morning were nice in sunshine and fresh air, surrounded by the warble of birds; sparrow, thrush, robin, green finch, great tit, dove I could recognize. In the grass I saw early spring flowers, eg primula, buttercup, forget-me-not, violets, bellis, capsella.
Start from the hotel at 9.15. In the bus Mia told us about Agatha Christie who lived in Cornwall a great deal of her life. Mia named detective stories "comfort books" and I agree. A good name! In my opinion good detective stories and good fantasy books, e g the book I am just reading "Taliesin" by Stephen Lawhead.
The tour went over the heath of Dartmoor and we saw the snow really near. Everywhere in the pastures there were sheep and small lambs or cows. Nearing Exeter we suddely were involved in a mist, later changing into haze, and that haze we had all day. In Dorset the landscape was much more majestic, the green hills were higher and the valleys deeper. Outside Dorchester we had a short stop at Poundbury, an experimental town with non-polluting goals under royal patronage by Prince Charles and The Duchy
In Dorchester we had lunch at a very old inn, "King’s Arms". No good food at all, we had been spoiled during the last week with excellent meals in hotels with a reputation of good food. After Dorchester we followed the big M-roads to Heathrow where we had to say farewell to John, our driver, and Lee, our guide.
The aircraft took off at time and everything was perfect except the food. The worst food we ever had in a flight, I think. At the beginning of the flight we were surrounded by clouds but after passing Denmark it was clear and I could recognize lots of places on the ground. And at halv past nine we landed on Arlanda air port.. The tour was finished!!!
